Survival Beauty Tips For Summer

jueves, 24 de junio de 2010 en 23:40
Ok Summer 2010 is already here! My skin is already feeling it as well the body.  I live in an island where is practically an eternal spring the temperatures fluctuating in between 65 to 90 degrees for most part of the year. Then there is the heat index where the temperature can easily be felt from 58 degrees ( winter in the central area anybody?) to 110 degrees during the Summer. That is not counting the Sahara desert dust that affects the Caribbean region  during the hurricane season in which we face the typical allergies that range from sinus to skin allergies and ocular allergies... nightmare! And the heath! So you might wonder how we face the Summer Season when the mercury in the thermometer rises to a boiling point tat all you want to do is take off your clothes and continue walking naked. Or better you have taken a cold shower and done your make-up oops where is it ?

1) First of all get H2O. You have wonderful resources: water, fruits & veggies!

2) Wear sunscreen and re-apply every 2 hours and make sure is of 15spf or more unless you wan skin cancer in the long term or the least look like a lobster all summer long. Neither of them is sexy or cool!

3) Just because is summer is hot and humid you can skip moisturizing your skin! Dead wrong. Find a moisturizer with spf. And for the face as well as for the entire body find a lotion that is oil-free. A little secret apply it while skin is still damp to lock-in the moisture from the water. Make sure that among the ingredients you have either one of the following jojoba oil, aloe or shea butter.

4) Scrub the old like a good old snake that you are. Jeje. Yep scrubbing to remove dead cells. You can buy it or make your own with salt or sugar and a bit of olive oil. Do this depending on your skin needs to achieve a glowing and soft skin that is the envy of the summer's breeze.

5) Protect the eye area. With a good pair of sunglasses that have uv filters and use an eye cream with spf if possible. Is a delicate area and is where we most and fast we show the signs of aging.

6) Get enough rest. Sleep deprive is a killer, a nightmare and a torture do yourself a favor and get 7 to 8 hours of sleep daily. And this I need to repeat to myself every night.

7) Mind the skincare regimen. I know is summer and the make-up routine is a nightmare but trying to find how to look or at least but some color into our faces is a tricky routine during the melting heat of summer.Look for a tinted moisturizer with SPF ( e.g  Josie Moran, Mark or Laura Mercier) that complies with your face skin needs.  Find multi-taskers that offer lip and cheek coloring e.g Benetint, or Mark's Just Pinched Instant Blush Tint if not then you can try a creamy lipstick to do the job. I have done it and it works! A good waterproof mascara and waterproof eye kohl from your favorite brand.

9) Wear comfortable and breathable clothes material trust me your skin will thank you  for it!!

10)  For summer I tend to put my face creams and foundations in the fridge. I love the cooling sensation of it when its apply on-to the skin and keeps the constancy of such liquids perfect shape.

11) Exercise regularly but please mind the time, the spf, the skin breathing and please hydrate.

12) Ditch sugary, salty, spicy, caffeine and alcohol loaded foods or drinks.  They make you more thirsty and they suck on your digestive system, did I mention it will make you moody because it will suck the natural cool of your body from your body fluids to its natural air cooler, notice how you sweat more after you binge on them. If you load on these types of foods or drinks and forget to look for other alternatives to quench your thirst you are looking at gained weigh scenario and even at dehydration. Look for healthy snacks like nuts ( protein loaded), fruits ( some of them loaded with fiber, vitamins and water :-p ), yogurt( protein plus calcium) and drink lots of water instead of pop soda.

13) Try to it lighter food that are not fried. There are wonderful options for it and way cheaper and healthier than just heading to the closest fast food chain.

14) Listen to your body at the first sign of not normal and this should be all-year round!

15) Do something outdoors.

16) Smile more. I dare to smile at strangers!  Even the skies smiles!

17) Do something that you been putting off but you love to do it soooooo much as soon as possible!! I do not care for excuses find the time, trust there is time to do it!

18) Declump your beauty drawers and look for the basic staplers that you use often as long they are not past their expiration date.

19) Do a daily exercise for your brain.

20) Dance to your heart's rhythm and let your body dance to its own beat.

21) Love, forgive, respect, admire and become a partner with yourself. You will be surprise by knowing what moves and ticks you off can help you out a lot with others. Dare to date yourself.

Happy Dogs' Days!

en 3:05
In Puerto Rico we say Happy Dogs' Day to the Male Parents Day. There are some theories of how this started but I won't go there. Maybe is because they just sit there and be lazy jaja. Just kidding. Anyway in honor of the Dogs' Days I will post some songs that my father and I used to enjoy and dance to when I was younger. Every time I hear them it brings me good memories and a smile from my heart.

The Byrds' Turn, turn, turn
This song every time my father heard it I use to see in his face such sorrow and nostalgia when it came up in the tape player. I at that time did not understand the reason why  his eyes' seem a bit lost when it got played but  I knew in my heart that it was very dear to him. He was a Vietnam Veteran and you can imagine that during the time this song hit the charts he was serving the United States forcibly as he was barely 18 years old. His innocent lost forever to the horror of war, the child and the young teenage boy forced to become a man against his will through violence and death around him in a foreign country which he barely understood and spoke the language. I never knew his stories and I regret never having the guts to ask him about his time in  fear of having bringing the moments back. I know my mother tells me some of them but is not the same. She tells his stories that he told her but is not the same but I understood as I grow older why he had to kept silence in front of me as he listen to this song.

Fear and angst ...

jueves, 17 de junio de 2010 en 12:15
we feel it when we are frustrated and self-bound shackle down stricken to move forward because we fear of the outcome, we are pessimistic of what will be and how will it turn out. As we fear we throw away the chances  to venture and discover things that makes us stronger from the pitty fear we feel that angers us due to the frustration of not moving forward. As you see we are our own gate keepers to move-on with out daily lives yet we are the writers of our horror novels when we let fear get the best of us leading us to angst follow by self-hate. Are we going to continue on this road and continue to be in a life that is worth living for filled with fear, angst and hatred to ourselves for not knowing the root of fears. Is more than facing the fear is knowing what strikes it and how you react towards it that makes you choose between the stricken life lead by fear or the life we strike to live for with some fears but not having them control us.

Chill out and laugh at with a good old clean fun. Who need raunchy comments or explicit humor when the obvious was umm not so obvious and more was left to the fun of the moment.

And at times the obvious is so obvious that people wonder if it is appropiate.   Like this Betty Boop  episode that still ejem some people do not think is appropiate to show. Just watch,  guess  for which drug and what else?

Nature's beauty cocktail- Olive Oil!

en 0:57
I am a fool for home remedies but I was weary to try home-made beauty products until I recently tried several for myself. This will be the very first post of hopefully many to come. I will say this home-made beauty remedy is a keeper.

Olive oil! Yes you read that right. Wait a minute, don't I have an oily skin I said t myself to convince myself. I had read almost everywhere that it was good but I was weary to try it. Come on that will make my sskin greasy!! Ok, I convince myself  to try it by first cleaning my make-up brush with it and lets see how it goes. I was amazed on how clean my make-up brushes resulted. I mean freaking come on, you know how much I could save by not buying those commercial make-up brush cleansers that are filled with sulfates and parabens!!! Lots since I wash them very often knowing how my skin reacts every time I forget to cleanse my foundation brush! Yikes! I tried it and voilà no make-up residue in my brushes contrary to my previous cleanser that even with a good shampooing of the brushes still there was some funk. Well I use one drop of it on my foundation brush, massage the bristle gently then reach for my sulfate- free shampoo and then rinse it with luke-warm water. My curiosity was killing me so I decided to see if my most used brush was cleanse there to my surprise as I brush gently my brush over a piece of towel paper no residue of my foundation. ~happy dance ~

(Photo courtesy of delayed gratification )

After that I decided the other day to try it on my face as a make-up remover. I normally use a make-up remover for my lips and eye lids  Clinique's Take The Day Off Makeup Remover For Lids, Lashes & Lips   and to remove the foundation baby- wipes or Almay's Makeup Remover Towelettes plus soaking my face with my cleanser and water. I mean how many stuff I use to remove my make-up? THREE!!! And  not counting how many towelettes and cotton balls I am discarding to cleanse my face plus the cost of each of these items as they run out which is fast!  So I decided to give olive oil a try and boy I was surprise it also works wonders in  removing make-up from my face! I have to admit I had to remove the oil from my face afterward . Jejeje. So I guess the towelettes and the eye make-up remover will be use for traveling while at home  I will stick with my two-step cleansing.  :-) .

My Summer Songs for 2010!

martes, 8 de junio de 2010 en 23:25
Lady Gaga's new single Alejandro. I always love the name ( my other half wherever you are, you are forewarn that this name is a contender for my son if I ever have one, a romantic, Victorian and gallant name). And to top off now its the tittle of a catchy song. ROTFL. Did I mention the official video rocks! But is not suitable for minors. I am not going to post the video in respect of some people in case they might find it offensive. In my opinion is a great video but knowing how kids today like to surf unsupervised I am not going to post the official video.

Kylie Minogue's All The Lovers!

Now where is my dance partner so we can dance to this all night. A tall, young, skinny, dark with a profond gaze to be my dance partner....

Ever since I hear this song I fell for her and hard! Alejandro Sanz's Desde Cuando
