Life is shitty but there's always toilet paper...

I regret entering this graduate school. Not because I do not like planning and the things that come along with it, I love it. But my frustration comes with the stuckness feel that the school carries. I've been working with my thesis for 1 year and half. Not because I am procastinating but because I am doing things blindly. After doing the whole research with advise of my thesis committee. I submitted the monster in a first draft. I get two thumbs down and one thumbs up. The two thumbs down came from my thesis director and the 1st lectour. Their feedback you need to do more diagnosis! I am around 100 pages of diagnosis in which includes social programs analysis connected through the train, interviews, observations, photographs, census data, historical revision, Municipal Plans revision and beyond. But no! According to them I have not done enough diagnosis. Now I just wish I could get some light about the process on how to implement a program. or do I have to get the degree in order to learn it? Or let it all in the hands of the government like a good responsible Puerto Rican Planner "does". No wonder why we get all the blame for every single plan that is made in this Island. Then speaking with other students who had been in my same situation they told me welcome to the void or better known as the Twilight Zone! The one with the thumbs up to present his feedback can you please add more information in the implementation. Cause honestly I do not think you need more diagnosis. I wanted my thesis or project committee to tell me more in the chapter of implementation. See in this what I have a problem with the school. They focus too much in diagnosis and little light on how to implement things. Puerto Rico and the world needs planners that are also experts in implementing now searching for diagnostics every single detail you can spend years on it. Plans should evolve with time also they should give suggestions or recommendations to which the plans or project fails to reach. Is like they pretend that we planners in one plan we are able to resolve everything. No! I see it as interconnected chaing that complements one another. One big plan in the end tends to discard small things that in the near or in the mid-future will be presenting problems. This is also a comment I have gotten with Social Workers as I exchange knowledge with them through the classes I took with them and projects that we were involve in. I used to wonder why they were so many graduate students in the master degree stuck in the thesis in my school. Now I know the professors either they fall in love with your project that they decided to extend you and make your life miserable until you can not take. And that is not looking at the gloomy panorama after graduating. I know of students who did present "on time" with good projects as thesis and guess what? They are unemployed devaluating their heaven- gifted talents in order to pay their student loans. I am looking myself since I started and yes to my regret I have one thing I wish I could turn back on time. I wish I could slap myself and tell me do not bother entering the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus for the degree in Planning.If you have other plans in the future go elsewhere in here your ideas are worthless and if you do not like you simply have to swallow it because you are in the minority. You will be stuck, you are going to reach down the lowest of the lowest in your depression struggle, you are not going to recognize yourself and your level of cynicism and negativity will break records. Heck if you dislike your country now you will hate it 5 yrs after. Because you will discover that we have the resources, we have the input/output to improve the nation, to put the school on the map but those up there have other plans as long as it feeds their egos and their interest they will let the simple things gather spiderweb and loose their worth. I said to myself I will not campaign in favor of the Graduate School of Planning at the University of Rio Piedras Campus. I simply will try to open the eyes of prospective students who are thinking in entering the school because of the concentration of Social Community Planning or Social Planning. Go to another program in here the priorities are others, in addition the director has other ideas that do not involve the well-being of the school. As long as the school does not change their director and update their faculty the school will continue on in the same rut in the areas of Ecological, Economical and Social planning. If we continue to focus in the Urban Planning solely I see why bother attempting to be it when we fail to connect the dots in urban and rural planning that is all interconnected to some degree in which is not always about the structures and the roads.

After hearing the news of my babies from Shinee have made their debut in Japan I could not helped to have this song be heard in my head. May them follow in their footsteps and make their own history in Japan. Learn from your oppas! Be humble and hard working
